£7.5m refurbishment programme
Faced with replacing over 450 sash windows dating from 1862, the Royal Military Academy called upon the expertise of Spatial’s timber-renovation specialists.
The majority of sashes measured around 1.5 metres in height, with larger ground-floor windows reaching an impressive 2.5 metres. Many were rotten, draughty, and inoperable — yet preserving them was just as important as improving the building’s energy efficiency.
As part of an extensive £7.5m refurbishment programme spanning two years, our team routed out the original 2m box frames and replaced them with our epoxy resin VR90 — for enhanced durability and energy efficiency. To minimise draughts further and ensure smooth operation, we also installed our unique perimeter sealing system, VPSS™, replaced sash cords, serviced the pulleys and balanced every window.
As part of a larger refurbishment project, the restoration highlights Spatial’s ability to breathe new life into historic buildings — preserving original features while upgrading them for modern use.
